Lessons Learned

I looked on back today
Back to when things were great
I never heard you say
I never thought at all
I watched the days go by
I watched the rain set in
I saw the clear blue skies
I saw the lights grow dim
If only I knew that when you weren’t gone
A lesson learned as time goes on
So what if it’s the end of everything?
I couldn’t let go of what they think
They tried to drag me down
I can’t believe what I have found
If only I knew then
That it would never stay
I’d trade it all back in
I’d never speak again
But now that I found out
They kept it from the youth
What they held in their mouth
I heard them speak the truth
Something told me that this was wrong
A lesson learned as time goes on
