Sky to Sky
Waking up after last night
I can feel the difference in the air
Tied a blue ribbon in my hair
Painted a smile on
I left the screen door unlocked
Hoping you would notice if you knocked
And when you found it you'd be shocked
But I'd be miles away
Wind in my hair
Every strand electrified
I burned it all down to start fresh
You could see the fire in my eyes
You walk into a mess
Flowers on the counter, blood stains on my dress
No, you couldn't name the stench
Though you could taste it
I pulled off at Texaco
Filled up to make it down to Mexico
Ate at a diner in Laredo
She said I look like someone they know
And I think she was right
Wind in my hair
Every strand electrified
I burned it all down to start fresh
They could see the fire in my eyes
You walk toward the marigolds and note
The dried leaves and singed edges smell like smoke
"You always did call me a fighter"
A clean slate can take you higher
But how high
I camped by the beach at night
Burned the last of my wood by full moonlight
I looked up to the stars
Swore that i could reach them
If I just tried
I still have dreams I'm running
Star to star and sky to sky
That gravity has no place in heaven
What's mine is yours and yours is mine
And we walk for what feels like days
Get drunk on berries, drink the rain
And swim in water 'til we're pruned
But when i wake its ruined
When I wake its ruined
Ruined
Ruined
