It Starts to Make Sense Now
There were times I could not breathe
When I heard the wind whisper your name in the leaves
And that stone on my chest pushed me down
Wherever I went I just carried it around
Though my allies were loyal yet dark were the nights
With nobody to see me through
And I longed for the first day to pass without
One moment of thinking of you
It'll start to make sense, when the pain is gone
Making sense now, with the sharp edges off
But it will take a long, long time to get by
There were times I was dreaming out loud
As I thought I saw you in every crowd
And my heart would cringe at the thought
That with all your reason you just lost the plot
Deliver me from this burden
What will it take to pull me through
Then out of the blue there's this first day that goes by without
Thinking of you
That's when it starts to make sense, now that the pain's gone
Making sense, with the sharp edges off
But it took me a long, long time to get by
All alone in darkness, there's nothing to fear but the light
Of a new morning, waking up, still being around, feeling the same
There will be times when you feel even worse
While you try to sit still and wait out the curse
When you can't keep your head up no more
And you're stuck like an anchor on the ocean floor
Just as a break in the clouds makes you stare and wonder
Golden rays falling through
Then we just greet politely and ask how one's doing
Like old acquaintances do
