Critic (The Mirror)
You say - nobody needs your new song
Cause it's dumb and they're bored of your pastime
And hey - you know the rhyme is all wrong
And you wore the same 4 chords out last time
I have heard your voice since I was seven (Self-reflection)
Telling me I wouldn't fit in heaven (Self-rejection)
So you gave me hell, I'm soaking in it (See me clearer)
It's for my own good to heed my critic (In the mirror)
You say you know those feelings inside?
Well they're common, senseless, and so hacky!
And hey - you're far too old to take pride
In your self-indulgence, God how tacky!
Though I know you're not in my best interest (Self-reflection)
I'm addicted to your poison witness (Self-rejection)
Though you're virgin-born and syphilitic (See me clearer)
It's a noble craft to be my critic (In the mirror)
The truth in me like trumpets blared
And I was vulnerable and scared
You can't hide how you came to be
The one who brought you here was me
You're desperate now to lock me inside
get my heart and mind and soul arthritic
You fade when I let in slightest light
You're pathetic, pale, and parasitic
Will I take the bait or beat my master? (Self-reflection)
Send the writer's-blockhead out to pasture (Self-rejection)
I was petrified and paralytic (See me clearer)
But behind the curtain, I'm my critic (In the mirror)
Now I see you're just my superego
You will stand down, shut up, and let me go
I refuse to feed the inner cynic
So I light a fire to my critic (In the mirror)
