How I Remember It
Dairy Queens and dollar stores
Veterans of foreign wars
Sunday Meeting and Monday chores
And that's how I remember it
Middle School dances and Senior Prom
Then off to work or Vietnam
You don't move far from your dad and mom
And that's how I remember it
And I know this world is changing but I don't care
I might be a thousand miles from my home
But my heart will still be there
Sometimes i feel like an old man
When i think of all that's gone
I'll leave the bad in the past
The good stuff, I'll bring it along
Diggin' coal and payin' rent
Come Monday morning my check's all spent
But I'm saving up for a fishing trip
And that's how I remember it
Standing in the hollers and looking at the hills
Smoke rolling out of my charcoal grill
Wishing that time would just stand still
And that's how I remember it
And I know this world is changing but I don't care
I might be a thousand miles from my home
But my heart will still be there
Sometimes i feel like an old man
When I think of all that's gone
I'll leave the bad in the past
The good stuff, I'm bringing along
And I know this world is changing but I don't care
I might be a thousand miles from my home
But my heart will still be there
You say my way of life is dead and gone
I'll leave the bad in the past
The good stuff, I'm bringing along
I'll leave the bad in the past
The good stuff, I'll bring it along
