I Wish I Could Read

I don't like books
They're hard for me to read
I can't hear the words
Over the sound of me
I can't find where I left off
I can't imagine any voices
I can't picture the characters
I can't focus on the-

I really like the ideas
I really like the authors
I really like the lessons
I really like the texture
I really like the smell
I really like the covеrs
But I can't read the words
And I can't retain thеm either

I can't stop thinkin' 'bout breakfast
And rereading the same line
And trying not to focus on the passage of time
I'll romanticize the benefits
And pretend that I'm relaxed
But in reality I am listening to the binding as it cracks

I can't read for the life of me
I have to read the summary
Or have the theme explained
I have to hear it narrated
I start to feel insane
When I'm staring at the letters dancing on the page
