Tomorrow

Leonard (Lenny) Igberaese

I keep on striving for a better tomorrow
One with less despair and much less sorrow
Always on my grind to keep improving
Even when I'm down I keep on moving
So many dark thoughts in my head
Reflecting on the type of life I've led
Lucky to be fed and not starving instead
After a long day I'm grateful to have a bed

Wondering if I'll achieve my dreams
Hoping there's a guide of headlight beams
It's very easy to give in to laziness
See the bad in life like a pessimist
But here and there are sprouts of inspiration
In those moments I work with little hesitation
Putting down some initial ideas
A rough draft that hasn't been reviewed by peers
Not sure if they will go anywhere
Or if they'll stay in place like a resting chair
As of now, it might be trash
But throwing it away would be way too rash
The future's so grand because of its potential
An unknown figure in time's residential
The vagueness past the present is terrifying
Can seem so scary that it's petrifying

If I don't journey onward to the next
That uncertainty will likely keep me vexed
Keep me chained up in a mental jail
No chance to succeed so I could only fail
Don't stay in your comfort zone
Containing skills in a dome
Capping off before the top of the cone
Take your life back as something only you can own
Stay authentic so you don't become a clone
No one can determine who you are besides you
No one can do it exactly like you do
Take pride in what you've lived through
Rising higher than blue skies and surviving your blues
It'll never be the same as it was once
I've changed a lot throughout the days and the months
But I can go take a page from my past me
So I'll never let another day get past me
Fear and caution are what were passed to me
I seek to conquer them by gaining mastery
Knowing I haven't reached my best
I've been on the ascent, haven't reached the crest

Push forward to another day
Acknowledge doubts but flying away from my bay
Focused on my vow so I won't be nudged astray and cashing out
On the time that I pay for all my wrongs while I turn gray
And slowly burnout like in an ashtray
