He Drove Her Out Of His Mind

For years she tried to make it all work
Put up with his hillbilly ways
She gave it her all till the love finally died
Then she left him one day

Though he turned to the bottle
And he turned to other women
But never a comfort to find
Try as he would he never could
Drive her out of his mind

He'd call me at night lost in his dreams
Asking where he'd gone wrong
He talk and he'd cry and I'd sit and listen
Till he's pass out and I'd hang up the phone

They say he was drunk when he went off the highway
Traveling at a high rate of speed
But I'm of a mind he knew what he was doing
When he drove his car into the tree

Though he turned to the bottle
And he turned to other women
But never a comfort to find
Last night on the highway at a hundred and ten
He drove her out of his mind
