Dirty Empire

I’m light as a feather but tenser than ever
It’s probably nothing but possibly something
And there on the TV I watch the wave breaking
It’s possibly ending but probably just starting

And the power goes down
And the mob comes out
That’s history

I’m probably sleeping, I’m most likely dreaming
I fly above the city and take in the whole scene
The lights in the buildings, I know that they’re fires
I’m watching us burn down this dirty empire

Somewhere in D.C I imagine he’s speaking
But nobody’s listening, they’re already drifting
And up in the tower-blocks they’re plotting a downfall
He’ll say that it’s nothing but trust me it’s something
