Requiem

This is a requiem for old food that's dead in the fridge
I put it in the crisper, but it refuses to live
I bought it at the market, the colours, the sounds
And only one dollar a pound

I bought you with high hopes of making a nice veggie pie
But then some friends came over and so we ordered some Thai
Oh why did I let you die?

I'm not a first offender; vegecide is my crime
Two pumpkins, three tomatoes, four squash, two leaks and a lime
On the bench in a bowl I left them
They were never identified
