Lost Song

Sea Oleena

Once there was a road toward the corner of my open eye
You found the way without a light

And ploughing on beyond an autumn all
But shed and left behind
A plea upon my open mind
Please don’t be so kind
I have only come to draw the blinds

And, as in drawing, shadows climbed the walls that you had painted white
I urged you not to close your eyes
Then un-gloved un-shy
Wrapped my hand around a cactus’ spines and though glochidia burrow
Still beneath the skin of my palm
None remain above to claim that I had held it at all
