She Never Blamed Him
She never blamed him never, but received him when he came
With a welcome kind as ever, well she tried to look the same
Vainly she would falter, whenever she tried to smile
A tear unbidden trembled, on her blue eyes all the while
She knew that she was fading, but she fought her certain doom
She never thought of sighing, over beauty's blighted bloom
She knew her cheeks were altered, she knew her voice was dim
Her sweet voice only faltered, when she spoke of losing him
It's true that he had sought her, from the place where she was born
It's true that he suffered her, to the cold worlds cruellest scorn
Yet she never blamed him, for the anguish she had known
And though she never blamed him, she thought of him alone
She sighed when he caressed her, for she knew that they must part
She spoke with just a whisper, to his young and hopeful heart
The banners waved around her, she heard the bugles sound
They passed, and strangers found her, cold and lifeless on the ground
