Familiar Spirit
Let go -
Cave dweller, let me explain
Face wrought in fools’ gold
Matted locks hide the dragon
It lurks in the flesh
The blind are borne
To reap the seeds of it’s breath
Familiar spirit
I never wanted to know your name
Familiar angel
I never wanted to see your face
I’m still here – held against my will
I’m still here – fighting to save my life
My fingertips cling to disbelief
Familiar demon, I never want to see you again
It crawls from the water
It slithers from the depths
Worms its’ way into the soil
And tunnels trenches to wage a lonely war
A snake with no direction
Anemones and leeches follow suit
And drag me down
Familiar spirit
I never wanted to know your name
Familiar demon I never wanted to see your face
Familiar parasite
I never wanted to end up here
Familiar ghost, familiar tyrant
I never knew you at all
If you take this path there’s no turning back
If you take this road you won’t be the same
If you fall there’s no-one to save you
Angels and demons – one and the same kin
