THANK GOD I DIED.

Byron Henderson

[Part I]

[Intro]
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah

[Chorus]
Life ain't never had time to wait til you're set
Left behind, though many done lost their minds, it ain't caught yours yet
Stars align, karma can halt your grind, bombarded with more stress
God's design, soul in the oven frying, but ain't charcoal yet

[Bridge]
A flash from a piece of plastic will have your whole life flashing
Drastic measures by brothers with no regards for white flags
Just worry bout your actions, not the outcome
Self-control
Don't let your focus on the past have you be outdone

[Verse]
Reach for the sky
Blessеd be the day I meet my demisе
Til I die, it seems a thug is all I'll be in their eyes
Regardless, my greatest efforts irrelevant, I suppose
I'm hardened
Too many gatekeepers been locking doors to rooms in which they're only a guest
If that's even the word to use
The nerve of dudes, lies don't care who tells them, further the ruse
The rules written by elders who issued curtains on physical and the verbal abuse
Omission of certain screws, toolbox full of insecurities
Mentally inept except for when it comes to convincing people they're less than
Widely accepted, the message perverted
Wealthy fair skinned are the exceptions
On a restless excursion traversing the land of the skeptics
I'm red in a world full of black, white, and gray
Treat your schemes like hieroglyphs being transcribed today
Entire motivation based on personal pain
The broken can't feel whole til they make others feel the same
World ran by folks who hate Black confidence
Fear mongering control freaks, protected by providence in their mind
But some are more sinister, exhibiting dominance
Confident in delusion, further proof it's a product of their decline
Expecting everyone to bend the knee to your beliefs is rich
Preparing kids for a world that no longer even exists
People consistently pleading the fifth
Leaving these kids for dead, then getting upset when they're not engaged
Between COVID, mass shootings, banning books and choosing to treat these kids like they don't know anything, sheesh
Adults ignore their wrong doings, but the reality is you're sharing plenty blame
How do they survive with climate catastrophe on the horizon?
When due to your pride, y'all barely put in effort to stop it
Plus in your eyes, they're too young to advocate for themselves
Y'all brought us here, but expect these kids to fix all your problems, crazy
Generational hatred intensifies greatly, but greatness is minimized
The internet's beautifully ugly, life is an enterprise
But when OG's ain't really OG's, just children in older vessels
Thinking y'all own a piece of the planet, I just can't empathize
The President's a hard sneeze away from death it seems
Need someone in tune with younger generations, but it's hard to stray away from secret recipes
The government and good intentions rarely mesh, believe
Police still brutalizing less fortunate, same trick, separate sleeve
Drastic errors, kept the worst ideals from everlasting eras
Therapy due to plenty traumatic encounters, but it won't combat the terrors
Clashing with your mind, told all you had to tell us
Folks will use your struggle for ammunition, and then act like you failed us
Loving a country that'd use me as bait, please
Changes minimal, mental chains, found ways to escape these
The truth is, the monster under your bed is human
To those it may concern, when I say "Who killed the world?"
The answer is, "You did."

[Chorus]
Life ain't never had time to wait til you're set
Left behind, though many done lost their minds, it ain't caught yours yet
Stars align, karma can halt your grind, bombarded with more stress
God's design, soul in the oven frying, but ain't charcoal yet

Life ain't never had time to wait til you're set
Left behind, though many done lost their minds, it ain't caught yours yet
Stars align, karma can halt your grind, bombarded with more stress
God's design, soul in the oven frying, but ain't charcoal yet

[Part II]

[Hook]
Let's say I lost my mind for the last time
The past never passes, we just pass time
When our shadows fall, they come back round
In a world where demons stand tall, we don't back down
Yeah, yeah, yeah

[Bridge]
Thank God I died for my sake
For your sake
My trauma died when I did
I'm okay
See it oh so clear now
My love's mine to send your way

[Verse 1]
If I ain't let my demons win, the odds ain't got a chance
I did it by the book of RiRi, different song and dance
Carved a path for me and mine to follow
Leaving scars and deathly thoughts behind
Tomorrow, life begins (But what if I don't come down)
May I come back stronger
Past consisted of living a life in my own shadow, put asunder
Mentally, all the bad would overshadow the good
A duodecinnium slumber couldn't distract from you and the cloth in which I was cut from
Everything we sewed, I reap in abundance
Took a walk with the reaper
But each promise I kept like a secret you take to the grave
Nevertheless, some days I wished you called a different play
But then again, I think you did what you desired
You deserve peace, Marina, I'll fight
Folks wonder why I say your name though you're gone
It's cause I won't let you die twice

[Hook]
Let's say I lost my mind for the last time
The past never passes, we just pass time
When our shadows fall, they come back round
In a world where demons stand tall, we don't back down
Yeah, yeah, yeah

[Bridge]
Thank God I died for my sake
For your sake
My trauma died when I did
I'm okay
See it oh so clear now
My love's mine to send your way

[Verse 2]
Wondered back when you were three if there was a Heaven, and I said, "Yes."
You replied, "How do you know?"
I turned to you and I said, "Because I'm sitting next to it."
Was barely clutching sanity and yet, my love for you, there ain't no measurements
Knowing your fate was becoming me, only thing I could do bout the blow was to lessen it
Twelve now
Al, I've gone to impeccable lengths to find your peace
Yet, with all of my efforts, your stress and depression has evidently still left your mind on E
You feel like a burden all because you're hurting, but all you can do is rely on me
Other folks never earned that trust
Still much work to be done their eyes don't see
Yet for some reason they're thinking they carry main character energy til they get smoked in the first episode of the show
Left by the protag set to bury their enemies, toe tag
Now it's all making sense to me
Used to think life wasn't meant for me
Penning the question, what do I have to live and die for?
Then you were sent to me, uh

[Hook]
Let's say I lost my mind for the last time
The past never passes, we just pass time
When our shadows fall, they come back round
In a world where demons stand tall, we don't back down
Yeah, yeah, yeah

[Bridge]
Thank God I died for my sake
For your sake
My trauma died when I did
I'm okay
See it oh so clear now
My love's mine to send your way

[Verse 3]
Flowers growing in the parts of my mind light never reaches all because of you
I was dead weight, still suppressing demons
You were scared, praying I would make it through
I was barely breathing, quick sand, I was sinking deeper
Hard to face the truth with unreliable vision
But all I know is little feels better than embracing you
Tears shed, eleven years gone by, fears spread
Knowing all because our love is delicate, it can be killed quick
But as long as you know that your roses won't die
Kelsey, you're my unicorn, you're my Sunshine
Staying true to form, I was done trying
Noose was drawn, but for some reason I caught myself untying it
Marina caught me back when I was falling while you'd often play the role of umpire
Al always toed the rubber
Still smell the stench of the rope that was on fire sometimes
So back and forth I go
Was never the Man of Steel
Was always y'all that had hope
Was y'all that gave me the chance to feel
Maybe y'all were the payoff
Fingers crossed you never up and take off
Face down on the pavement
Thinking of you when I jumped and how you turned the tides
Always been down to ride
Even through darker times
We always found a way back, so nah, this ain't no time to die
Yeah
