Life Is Cruel
Grew up poor and I grew up fast
Life is cruel when your coming in last
Daddy knew things didn't turn out right
When mama skipped town in the middle of the night
Young and scared, anger planted a seed
Hungry for blood and a hunger for greed
Trouble loves the hand that cradles the gun
So Daddy said, nose to the grind, keep your head down son
Boy, I grew to a hardened man
Couldn't find love in a one night stand
Was just trying to find what my mama stole
Gentle touch and a smile that'll make me whole
They say time heals pain but it made things worse
As I laid daddy in the cold dark earth
He always did what he could but the drink came first
He'd Been rotten inside now he's rotten in the earth
Rain it trickles down the mountain side
From creek to the river to the ocean tide
Little things that make up who we are
They can flood they can drown our wayward hearts
So keep your eyes looking straight ahead
To the foot of the Cross to the blood and the bread
Remind this heart and the crooked soul
That love inside, it can make you whole
I sometimes feel the pain of years gone past
So I cling to the Father, to the love that lasts
