Oh night on the beach
Near the everglades
A feverish wall of screams
Above us

No light falls on the beach
Hermits and crabs like wraiths
Shuffle among the stones
Their pincers pick at bones
The ribcage of your life, boy

Shrine to your spine that just ached on
Every tide below
A status quo undertow
Nothing to know
Lay on the debris

Oh night on the beach
And forever be void of glow
In undead beds below

Sensory mimes
Pretend there’s a rhyme
Or reason

Never be kind

Maybe you’re divine
Yet still confined
To this silent grind?

Night on the beach
Buried and resigned
All is space and dark outlines

'Neath shores and the moon’s dim gaze
There’s a blank-eyed withering seahorse
Who had the light for
To cry for, pine for
All your hopes pressed into flattened contours

Tangled in lines
Among corals now bleached out
A thousand nights
Before the stupid stars blinked out
